This is the most traditional method for throwing, some say, it is the only way, as it provides a better throwing experience. Modern electric wheels spin too fast meaning the pots de-water quicker thus creating problems in the throwing. When seated you generate the momentum by moving the heavy flywheel with your foot which will power your wheel, when spinning you can put your feet on the footrests. If you have a shed or out-house that is far from an electrical supply, then this could be for you. It also has the advantage of being a simple mechanical design that will last you many years, not needing spare electrical components to be replaced.
In its basic form the wheel is sold without a splash pan. However it is advisable to purchase one, as your legs will be underneath and vulnerable to drips and splashes whilst working the wheel.
