This clay is premium in every way, from the super smooth body with a creamy feel, through to the excellent strength. We are confident that this clay will become your favourite throwing clay.

Texture: Very Smooth

Unfired characteristics: A white body, buttery smooth and highly ‘plastic’ from the bag. This beautiful clay is unsurpassed on the wheel where fine detail and extremely thin walls can be achieved with ease.

Fired colour: Off white

Shrinkage: 14.5%

Ideal for throwing and hand building.

Firing Range

Ideal Bisque: 999°C (cone 06)

Glaze Range: 1220°C to 1280°C (cone 6 to cone 9)

Working Notes

This is a premium quality white stoneware throwing body. A superbly smooth and silky clay which has an addition of a fine molochite to provide stiffness on the wheel and strength in the finished piece.

The white body fires to a brilliant white at bisque, maturing to a very strong and pleasing limestone colour at high temperatures.

Health & Safety

As the clay contains crystalline silica avoid inhaling dust from dried out clay. Wash hands after use and clean up using a damp sponge.

Very wet and sticky

Historically I've been very pleased with this clay but the last batch I had [I buy it in 1kg bags] was so wet and sticky I've struggled to use it. I hand build with it and despite it being designated ‘throwing clay' I used to find it excellent. I'm waiting to see what the clay that arrived today is like to see if this change was an aberration or is permanent.

Smooth and slippery!

Enjoying using this clay. It's early days as I haven't taken anything through the firing stages yet, but have been able to make different shaped thrown forms on the wheel.

just tried the white throwing clay for the first time.very smooth and throws well.

bisqued fired at 980 and glazed with no problems .will buy again.

Easy to use, looks great

I've just opened my kiln and I am so happy with how this clay looks with a transparent glaze. It throws well and looks great.
