7 differing brushes, for the many different applications of glazes, slips and underglazes etc.
Set includes:
- 70mm (W) hake brush. Made with soft goat hair in a traditional design.
A very versatile brush, often used for flat or low profile wares with glazes and big dramatic calligraphic oxide washes. - 40mm (W) long, wide bristle brush. Made with a firm bristle of goat and camel.
Budget brushes such as these were the choice of productive glazers when fast, confident pooling of glazes on flat surfaces such as decorative tiles.
The advantage was, the hair was soft enough not to scratch or be abrasive but firm enough to hold a quantity of the liquid so could be placed at speed,
moved or even dribbled into defined areas. - 20mm & 10mm (W) flat mop brushes. Made with soft goat hair.
These will hold a lot of glaze so are perfect for general-purpose brush-on glazes. We have found them to be ideal for hard-to-get places like the insides of pots.
They will also work for washes and watercolour effects with stains and oxides. - 10mm (W) Chinese bamboo brush. Made with goat and mare hair. The fine tapered points allow artists to create strokes, oriental and calligraphy-style lettering, washes and blends.
- 7mm (W) Chinese bamboo detail brush. Made with wolf and mare hair. As above, but offering a different size and feel.
- 2.1mm (W) Chinese bamboo fine detail brush. Made with sable. Ideal for precise work, small figurative detail painting and lustres.
