Product Information

This is a great, and versatile clay with a smooth texture and fires to a nice white. The clay is especially suitable for throwing, the exceptional strength of greenware makes turning and trimming a delight.

Texture: Smooth

Unfired Characteristics: A very smooth and even body which is remarkably plastic from the bag, becoming strong in the leather hard state.

Fired colour: White

Shrinkage: 10%

Ideal for throwing and hand building.

Firing Range

Ideal Bisque: 1100°C (cone 02)

Glaze Range: 1020°C to 1160°C (cone 05 to cone 4)

Working Notes

This clay contains a ball clay mix which makes the body more plastic, so is excellent for the ambitious throwing projects as well as achieving detail in hand-built projects. Our White Earthenware has even achieved low stoneware temperatures (1240°C) with some glazes, so it has some versatility. However we would advise staying with the more traditional earthenware glaze firing temperatures. If however you wish to experiment, please protect your kiln by using sacrificial dishes.

Fires to a warm white at bisque and through glaze temperatures.

Health & Safety

As the clay contains crystalline silica avoid inhaling the dust from dried out clay. Wear a P3 mask, wash hands after use and clean up using a damp sponge. Dust off dirty clothes and aprons outside.

Buttery smoooooth

Excellent for throwing, but also for handbuilding and sculpting. I've used it for all of those. Bisques to a nice off white/ cream colour. Haven't had issues in pairing with Vitraglaze, Botz or Spectrum glazes.
